One of the most significant investments you’ll make in your life will be the home you choose to purchase. The whole process can be quite daunting, especially because there’s a lot of information to sift through. Apart from the fact that you will have to look for a means of financing the investment, you will also have to do a lot of research on the various cities & neighborhoods you’re considering before arriving at a final decision. At every stage of the process you’ll find yourself looking for more information, and while your REALTOR® will certainly have a lot of helpful answers for you, it never hurts to use other online resources as well.

Technological advances in communication have made finding information much easier these days (when I was growing up phones still had cords). The real estate industry is no exception when it come to new technology. Currently, you can find KW mobileuseful information on prospective real estate properties not only from websites, but also apps like the Keller Williams mobile app shown here.  —->

If you are planning on relocating to a new neighborhood or city, the following websites and apps will give you a lot of good information and could help you find the perfect placer.

City-data.com

City-data.com is a great website that provides tons of information on cities all over the country. From demographics, to climate, to schools, to economic activity…this website covers just about anything you’d want to know about a town or neighborhood. The website also has active forums where you can ask locals anything about the community. .

Streetadvisor.com

After you’ve narrowed down your selection, and decided on a city, you can visit Streetadvisor.com where you will receive even more insight on the different communities you’re considering. This website has been designed specifically to give visitors the opportunity to review a neighborhood from top to bottom. Community rankings in any given city is based on ratings from local users.

Neighbourhoodscout.com

Here’s another good site where you can really take a hard look at relevant statistics that characterize places that may have peaked your interest. You may have to subscribe to this site for full access.

Rating Apps (e.g. Foursquare and Yelp)

Two of my favorite mobile apps (besides the KW mobile app) are Yelp and Foursquare. These two are great and can help find out information on community events and a wide variety of businesses, vendors, and restaurants. In addition, you can find out info on local parks and a whole slew of other community related stuff.

The websites and apps listed above are great for preliminary research. A good real estate professional in the local area can fill in any blanks and provide a unique local perspective that may help you decide which way to go. Which areas are best suited for your specific situation as well as those that you should avoid? In the process, you will be able to narrow down your choices and as a result make the best decision possible. Paring these online resources and mobile apps with the local knowledge of a real estate agent will help ensure you are prepared to make the best decision.
